Paper and Ink Imaginings

Tulips for Days

(click on any image to enlarge in new window!)

This past weekend I went TULIP CRAZY. Seriously.

I was inspired by a tulip stamp I saw last week – that I don’t have, I don’t have the craft funds to purchase (and, really, I would use it for March & April, then it would sit the rest of the year).

So I pulled out my old, wood mount tulip stamps. Made 16 cards, and have 2 more images (a newer, mixed bouquet stamp) colored but not made into cards yet. Always good to pull out the old stuff to see if it still works – of course it does! (why else would I have kept it in my basement this long – the old favorites ALWAYS work!)

The thank you set (of 8) is for my mother-in-law.

Amethyst Hummingbird Birthday Card

Colorful Buttons Note Card

Last time Cousin Pati stopped by, we were talking about buttons. We both have extra buttons lying around.

I don’t often use buttons on cards – it makes a card expensive to mail.

I did pull out an old Sizzix/Stampin’ Up! Embosslits die – Sweet Buttons, to create paper buttons.

Supplies:  Paper – Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, PopTone Razzle Berry, Sour Apple, Stampin’ Up! Basic Black, dies – Reverse Confetti (quilted tag), Stampin’ Up! (buttons), corner rounder – We R Memory Keepers.

Textured Floral Birthday Card

This card is the remade version of something I attempted to make in a rush last week.

Have you ever put a project together and growled because something landed where you didn’t quite intend? Sometimes, the unintended is OK (or even serendipitous!). Sometimes, the whole project gets trashed because of that flaw. This time, I actually salvaged the pieces and redid the card.

Here is the original rushed version:

The two top flowers are too even for me. I had adhesive on the back of the white sentiment, and was hovering over the flowers trying to space them correctly, and I snagged the last one (top right) in the wrong place. UGH. But I put it all together anyway, thinking maybe it would not bother me so much when my frustration wore off. WRONG.

I was able to blast the top of the card with my heat gun and peel off the sentiment and flowers without ruining the blue layer. I die cut another sentiment (I had stamped extras the first time), added a layer behind it, die cut new flowers and threw in a few butterflies and sequins.

Thanks for stopping by!

Tree update:  Our neighbors had the 2 pear trees removed from between our houses yesterday.

Supplies:  Stamp – Stampin’ Up!, paper – Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, Stampin’ Up! Basic Black, Calypso Coral, Marina Mist (retired), So Saffron, ink – VersaFine Onyx Black, dies – Provo Craft (flowers), Spellbinders (ovals), Stampin’ Up! (butterflies), embossing folder – We R Memory Keepers, sequins – Doodlebug Designs, embossing powder – Stampendous Detail clear.

Watercolor and Stencil Embossing Paste Valentine Card

I haven’t bought a new Valentine themed stamp set in some time – I usually just play around with things I have to make them more Valentine-y.

And then I run out of ideas for cards for my husband…there is nothing in my collection that I can modify to fit for Valentine’s Day for him.

So, this year, I watercolored a background red & blue (and I was surprised that the colors did not blend for purple in the middle…maybe the paper wasn’t wet enough when I got there?). I let that dry overnight. Next, I stenciled “falling hearts” onto the painted panel with clear embossing paste.

The shine of the embossing paste hearts is partially visible if I tilt the card towards the light for this photo.

The heart was first dry embossed (embossing folder), then die cut into the heart shape. Emboss a sentiment onto a blue scrap, and the card is done.

Supplies:  Stamp – Hero Arts, paper – Canson watercolor, Gmund Royal, Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, Stampin’ Up! Real Red, inks – Hero Arts Unicorn, die – Spellbinders, embossing folder – We R Memory Keepers, stencil – Simon Says Stamp, embossing paste – Dreamweaver/Wendy Vecchi translucent, embossing powder – Filigree Fine Art Powder white.

Sunny Smiles Citrus Card

I pulled out the Essentials by Ellen’s Rustic Botanicals stamp set to work on a Mother’s Day card.

And got hijacked by this circle stamp that reminds me of sliced citrus fruit.

So, I went with it. Happy. Bright.
